Influences and style
Ryder's major influences include J.K. Rowling, Steven Moffat and Joseph Lidster. While possibly not all that noticeable in Ryder's writing, he adores Rowling's character work and world-building, and tends to be drawn to her more uplifting work and moments. He also has a facination with Moffat and Lidster's styles, especially in terms of timey-wimey and surrealist elements. His love of the fairytale-esque Pond era of Doctor Who is influential on his work.
He is known for focusing more on character work than the plot and/or villains, as seen in SJA's The Horde of Darkness, which places the characters front and centre.
Despite that, his writing has also been criticised for being too focused on characters, to the detriment of the villains.
Views
Left-wing and an atheist.
Personal Life
You'll often find him drinking tea and watching tv, mainly Doctor Who or superhero shows. He is a bit of an introvert with, quite frankly, awkward social ability. Ryder is also a big film buff, and enjoys watching the latest blockbusters, especially Marvel, DC and Star Wars.
When he isn't busy studying, Ryder tends to spend time with his family and/or watching tv, and is also an occassional videogamer. His music tastes are eclectic to say the least, ranging from Pop to Rock, though he prefers soundtracks.
He is also gay, which gives him an increased desire to include LGBT representation in his writing.
