"And look at what the human race has done. Through your fear, you’ve turned them into monsters."
Crash-landing in the house of Robin Moon, the Doctor finds himself caught up in two mysteries. The first is a mysterious department store, which is about to play post to a deadly resurrection - and the second is an ordinary woman on Primrose Hill, who for some reason hates Christmas.... “The Museum. So vast and so unique that it doesn’t need a name. The greatest collection of famous artefacts the universe has ever seen – a wonderful taster of what the universe has to offer. And we’ve got tickets!" The Doctor takes Robin to the Museum, a great collection of alien artifacts on a planet dedicated to the even greater space-time pioneer, Cerscillus. But a touching tribute soon turns into a sinister fight hunt for the source of strange occurrences, as exhibits leave their stations... As well as discovering the truth behind the Museum, Robin is also faced with the dilemma of whether or not to trust the Doctor - just who is he? Why does he come to Earth? And why has he really taken her to the Museum? "You think I care about a couple of barely sentient insects?" The way he spoke scared Robin. "They're nothing compared to fighting time." When a group of alien leeches follow the Doctor and Robin back in time, they cause the inadvertent murder of a prominent historical figure and find themselves progressively becoming embroiled in the King's world of politics, treachery and adultery. Can they fix time and save themselves - heads included? “I mean it takes your brain and sticks it inside that metal shell. And it removes your emotions. It takes away everything that makes you who you are, and then you keep on living. Ever wanted to be immortal? Because I’d much rather die.” Robin has a request for the Doctor - one trip, for her best friend. It's not too much to ask. The Doctor agrees. That's when the Doctor asks Jess where she wants to see. The Year 3000 - a nice, round number - but, as the Doctor knows, an ever-changing future - a point of time in flux. Anything could happen: disease, poverty, corruption, even the apocalypse. And it does. “When I woke up this morning I felt different. Everything. The world around me shivered and shook, and it felt like I’d been caught in the heartbeat of a dying man. Something’s going to happen to the universe.” There's a lightshow in the sky; a fierce illumination which makes way for an impossible event: everything stops. The Earth stops turning around the sun. It stops moving on its own access. The world freezes, impossibly, as Britain is trapped under a perpetual sunset. It's time for the Doctor to come back. “So this is what evolution does, then? Brings enlightenment and turns you into monsters. Your curiosity is about to destroy everything. Everything!” Teaming up with a nearly-retired professor and a criminal ex-psychologist, the Doctor travels across the universes to reach the heart of the problem, and discovers a dark secret about nature which will change the way he sees evolution forever. “The Planet Makers. They do what they say on the tin; make planets commercially to suit purposes or desires. Name the planet and how you want it made and they’ll make it. Humanity thrived on interstellar business during these times so they’d craft whole solar systems, just so that they could form life intelligent enough to trade with.” V-3-Lime-6; an uninhabited planet, produced commercially as part of a vast, whimsical system in the far future. But it's become overrun by the Krynoid, a vigorous, unrelenting plant life. An ultimatum has been passed: the planet will be destroyed. Accompanying a small, unconventional team, the Doctor heads down onto the planet's surface to bring an end to the conflict. But will the surrounding planets end up sacrificed because of his failure to protect them? “No. No, this flail was way more desperate than just falling back. He was grabbed out of this chair. Thrown.” Heading back to a celebration of the supposedly progressive, Autumn Rivers meets the doomed Professor Ricker, while the Doctor has an encounter with something far worse - the Hunters of Andromeda... “There is always a gain to be made in war. Can you really blame me for exploiting it? Are you really going to bring morality into the battlefield?” Following the Hunters of Andromeda, the Doctor is thrilled to arrive in the Ancient Olympic Games. He respects the culture and admires the people of the time, though Autumn dismisses their belief in the pantheon of Gods. That's until they meet, in the flesh, the Greek God of War. “Doctor Vershack is renowned for his work with creatures. He is the leading Genetic Biologist within the scientific community. This latest project was his maddest yet. It turned a few heads and got him stuck out here. But he proved them wrong - it worked. And now thanks to him the planet has a new species.” The hunt for the Hunters continues, leading the Doctor, Autumn and Lily-Rose to the prehistoric era, where the Earth is being ravaged by violent Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. A meteor is on course to hit Earth and everything seems that bit too coincidental... That's until they find the Silurians and unravel the EDEN Project. Suddenly, everything makes sense, and the Doctor must assemble a team to make one of the most horrible decisions in prehistory... “Welcome to the beginning of time.” The chase for the Hunters of Andromeda is over, and the Doctor, Autumn and Lily-Rose find themselves at the beginning of time, where, impossibly, they collide with an advanced but ramshackle civilisation. But the Doctor is the harbinger of bad news: everyone there is going to die. “It was my fault, I’m sorry. I made you into this. But now I can make you better again.” All the strands are drawing together; all paths converging, though no one realises it yet, as a group of villagers dare to question the inexplicable world around them and, far across the universe, the Doctor and Autumn are being targeted by a mysterious blackmailer. “Doctor, you’ve made mistakes, but you can make it up…" Entering Dalek Space, the Doctor falls into a trap and takes Autumn with him as he runs for his life. But when the TARDIS takes them to the Village and everything is revealed, the Doctor realises that he would have been much safer left to the Daleks... “I don’t want to fight the Daleks. I have no interest in combat. I want to destroy them.” The Doctor is trapped in a Dalek Camp, living a life worse than death. Across the universe, political tensions between the Daleks and the rest of existence worsen. And, with a time machine at her disposal, Autumn Rivers begins what, the Doctor realises, might be her final journey |
The Eighth Doctor is one lingering mystery in the Doctor Who universe, a briefly-seen incarnation who, as a result, is at tension with the rest. What better character to write a fan-fiction about?
Almost straight out of The TV Movie, this Eighth Doctor, whose story began in December 2014, finds himself in the company of Robin Moon, a surprisingly bitter woman who has grown cynical after suffering a personal loss. Across the first series the Doctor encounters all manner of foe, from Cybermen to Daleks, and from himself to his friends. Will we finally come to understand what this incarnation means to the rest of the universe? The first series is produced by Janine Rivers. |
