"I'm not resting until she's safe."
Determined to find and save Autumn Rivers, the Doctor embarks on a journey across time leading him to his final resting place. But can even the truth save Autumn now? "My name is the Doctor... and this is my confession." On an empty planet in an unoccupied region of space, the Doctor has time to do something he hasn't done for a long time and for good reasons: philosophise. "Does trouble follow you wherever you land?" As her plan advances, Autumn seeks out more information about the Doctor: what other lives has he lived? This takes her to the Brigadier and the Black Archive, which is recovering from a break-in. Nothing major was taken, so they say. Nothing which could cause any damage... Soon it becomes clear that UNIT underestimated the risk, as the Doctor and his companions become part of a twisted plan for the survival of a terrible creature, and Autumn discovers more than she'd bargained for... “I haven’t gone by the name in centuries. I was under the impression that no-one alive knew it. The last… The man who christened me. He got what he deserved in the end.” A distress signal. A legendary battle. A world consumed by wind and fire. Metal men, and a storm of angels. Worlds collide, and death comes to time. A woman is recognised. Dying, she is reborn. The woman known only... as the Doctor. “And why is that Doctor? They aren’t made of wood! They are crystals. Don’t you have a setting for deeply infuriating self-proliferating, sentient, crystalline, fake Christmas decorations?” It is Christmas Eve and the first time in recent memory that the Doctor has allowed, at Robin's request, a Christmas celebration on board the TARDIS. He thinks it is a sign that she has recovered from the main portion of her grief over the loss of her family at Christmas time. But he soon regrets his decision when the Feast becomes an inFestation after one of Robin's purchases from the respected Harrods in London quickly evolves into a major threat to the lives of the Doctor, Robin and Autumn and the TARDIS herself. With the cloister bell throbbing, and Autumn, the Doctor and the Doctor's sonic now incapacitated, it is up to Robin to solve the mystery, destroy the threat and save the day, while fighting back memories of the loss of her own family and the risk of losing this new and unusual one that has helped her heal over time... is she up to it? "It all ends here. Thank you for the last year together. Thank you for showing me who I was… oh, so many times. And thank you for staying by my side until the end. I’ll miss you most of all. And the thing that keeps me going now is the promise that you won’t miss me at all.” Autumn and the Doctor both become more desperate in their battle against each other, making each move more personal. How long will it be before someone gets hurt in the crossfire? And which one of them will win? |
Continuing on from the cliff-hanger of the first series, these six episodes of The Eighth Doctor Adventures, written by a selection of guest writers, see the Doctor's conflict with Autumn Rivers reach its climax. |
