The Anger Games - Introduction (By The Genie)
SYNOPSIS:
Following the Hunters of Andromeda, the Doctor is thrilled to arrive in the Ancient Olympic Games. He respects the culture and admires the people of the time, though Autumn dismisses their belief in the pantheon of Gods. That's until they meet, in the flesh, the Greek God of War. |
PREVIEW:
“You make it sound so simple.” “You’re right, it isn’t. It’s a cocktail of emotions. Competition, greed, humour, intrigue. But that’s how wars start, Ares. Wars that we should not be a part of.” “There is always a gain to be made in war. Can you really blame me for exploiting it? Are you really going to bring morality into the battlefield?” “You might be the God of War, Ares, but I’m the Lord of Time. And mark my words, time always ends wars.” |
The Anger Games is an unusual story in the fact that t's actually, well, usual. It's the only time this series I've written a conventional kind of Doctor Who episode; the pseudohistorical, that's been little more than just that. I thought it would be a boring venture but in the end it was fun - working in historical reference, working with history itself, and continuing the overreaching arcs but more subtly than usually (well - I'm not quite sure about subtle). This isn't the best of the series but, I would say, puts a fair case forward for simply working as what it is.
